The Rwanda Athletics Team heads to Durban
The Rwanda national athletics team leaves the country this Sunday for the 20th African Senior Championships to be held in Durban- South Africa from 22nd to 26th June 2016, beaming with confidence of rocking the goals after winding up training at Amahoro National Stadium, Kigali.
The Team, that was given a warm send off by Athletics Rwanda and the Ministry of Sports and Culture last Friday evening, comprises the top cream in the country and young and energetic runners NISHIMWE Beatha and Nyirarukundo Salome Both Junior Athletes together with MUKANDANGA Clementine and the team is going for scheme to penetrate in some grey events.
Nyirarukundo Salome will compete in 5000meters, Nishimwe Beatha in 1500meters and Mukandanga Clementine in 10,000 meters. Though the first two young Girls are Juniors and still are going to compete in seniors, they are in the team by merit and their brilliant out-come should not surprise athletics fraternity as the team jet out of the country.
The African Championships in Athletics is a continental athletics event organized by the Confederation of African Athletics. It is generally organised biennially, meaning every four years it is held in the same year as the Summer Olympics. The 2014 edition was held in Marrakech, Morocco.
